A video allegedly taken during the encounter between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Abu Sayyaf group (ASG) on Saturday has been making rounds online.
The 10-minute video shows a military position in a forest during the 10-hour firefight in a village in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan.
Sporadic gunfire can be heard in the background, with the person taking the video firing some shots himself.
At least 18 AFP soldiers were killed, including four that were decapitated during the encounter, Philstar reported.
On the other hand, five ASG members, among them a Moroccan terrorist, were also killed.
A total of 56 soldiers and 20 from the Abu Sayyaf were injured in the clash.
The soldiers were reportedly ambushed by an estimated 120 ASG members who took advantage of the terrain and the element of surprise to mow down several soldiers on their first attack.
