Has it always been a dream of yours to become a model?
Yes, ever since I was a kid. Pero, ewan ko. Initially I wasn’t really interested in modeling but as I got older, I started to see it as something I could really do. I was also influenced by my barkada because I have a lot of friends who are models too.
Introduce us to them? Modeling aside, what takes up the rest of your time?
Aside from joining pageants here and there, kumakanta rin ako sa bar. I’m a vocalist so every Friday and Saturday I perform. We play at Bamboo Grill on E. Rodriguez.
So what’s your band called?
Unplugged. We usually take RnB songs and turn them into acoustic numbers. When people ask for requests, we play them if we can. The most requested are Super Bass [by Nicki Minaj] and Price Tag [by Jessie J]. Those songs never fail to please the crowd.
If you could put together your dream band, what would you call it?
Explosive! Marami akong pasabog na puwedeng gawin. Ha ha!
Mahilig ka bang magpasabog?
Sa totoo lang, kalog akong kasama. My friends say they enjoy my company because they always smile when I’m with them. Marami talagang pasabog sa buhay ko. Ha ha!
Do you drink with these friends?
Yes. Malakas akong uminom. But I can still control myself, kapag hindi ko na kaya, exit na ako. I’ve gotten really drunk before, but thankfully nothing bad happened. Wala lang akong maalalala at sinasabi na lang nung friends ko sa akin yung mga nangyari. We were at a club and apparently I introduced myself to some guys and ended up dancing with them. My friends had to pull me out of the club to go home.
We noticed you dancing during breaks on the set. Do you enjoy it?
Pag nagkakatuwaan lang. I don’t really think I’m a good dancer. I think I’m more of a singer than a dancer.
Does the “nice guy” approach work for you?
Siguro naman lahat ng babae gusto yung ganun di ba? Yung idadaan ka talaga sa sweetness. He should show you who he really is. He should show a lot of effort. One of my dreams is for a guy to do something very elaborate in front of a huge crowd just to get my attention.
Our stylist thought you were a model for Candy magazine because you look so young. Do you always get that?
Opo. Ha ha! When I go to castings or VTRs, they always ask me, “Sure ka 18 ka na?” Kulang na lang ipakita ko yung birth certificate ko sa kanila para maniwala silang 18 na ako.
One of our staff also mentioned you have a Hayley Williams [of pop rock band Paramore] vibe about you. Have you always had that rocker edge?
I guess. I think I’ve always been boyish and I like hanging out with guys. I guess the singing part helps as well.
How do you like being kissed?
You have to be deeply in love with the guy, and he has to be deeply in love with you. When that’s the case you can feel the passion from both parties.
