In a freak accident that reads like a scene straight out of Final Destination, a Don Mariano bus (plate number UVC 219) fell off the Skyway and landed on a van in the early morning of December 16, 2013. At least 18 people were killed and around 20 more hospitalized due to various injuries.

It's a scary thought: one minute you're chilling in your vehicle and the next, a bus falls out of the sky and crushes you and your ride. It goes to show that danger lurks at every corner, even when you least expect it. So #IngatIngatDinPagMayTime!

According to lawyer Jason Cantil, legal counsel for Don Mariano Transit, this is an isolated incident. Sir, be that as it may, but the families of the victims and survivors ain't buying that and will probably just say "Weh, 'di nga?" Especially because last year another Don Mariano bus did this:


What's up with these road monstrosities that seem like they want to develop wings and fly? According to reports, the bus involved in this latest tragedy was speeding. A witness said it was travelling at 100kph or even faster, well beyond the 80kph speed limit imposed on buses on the Skyway. Coupled with wet, rain-kissed roads and you've got a combo for an inevitable disaster.

Good lord, we're still shocked with the number of fatalities and injured folks—and to think this happened at the merriest time of the year. We don't want anything like this happening again...forever.
