Earlier today, two arms of the Sandiganbayan reportedly granted the prosecution's motion for the transfer of Janet Napoles to Camp Bagong Diwa.
A week after the alleged pork barrel mastermind was acquitted for the crime of Benhur Luy's serious illegal detention, the anti-graft court's First and Third Division rejected her lawyers' plea for her to be moved into the custodial center of the National Bureau of Investigation.
Napoles, who is currently detained at the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City, will instead be held in the police camp's Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility.
First Division Acting Chairperson Geraldine Faith Econg explained during the hearing that under R.A. 6975 or the Department of the Interior and Local Government Act of 1990, the "custody and safekeeping" of persons "awaiting investigation or trial" are mandate of the BJMP.
Prior, the legal counsel of Napoles worried about their client's security after she was eyed as a state witness in the brewing renewed inquiry of the PDAF scam, which Econg dismissed. Now, all that's left is for the Fifth Division of the Sandiganbayan to sign off on the commitment order before proceeding with the relocation.
The public is tuned in to the developing story, including the omnipresent lurkers on social media. The problem is, some netizens may have gotten the wrong idea of why Camp Bagong Diwa is a trending topic.
Not every netizen was ignorant, though.
One thing's certain, though: Ma'am Janet had a happy Mother's Day.
