"Yumaman ako sa pagiging bangkay." In one of his final interviews, Palito jokingly revealed how he achieved cinematic glory with his chosen roles. [firstpara] After many years of being in hiatus, he is finally able to play the part once again, this time in real life.

Seasoned comedian Reynaldo “Palito” Hipolito, publicly known in Philippine cinema for his slapstick antics and skeletal figure, passed away this morning, 12 April 2010, after a week-long battle with weakness and abdominal pains. He was 76.

According to son Jhune, Palito was already in pain immediately after arriving at their family home Tuesday last week, coming from a nearby casino where he is a musician along with his combo – his only source of income in recent years.

Palito was brought to the Imus Family Hospital, where he underwent an ultrasound test that revealed an anomaly of his liver, Yahoo! Philippines reports. The veteran comedian was reportedly in need of financial aid, which in turn quickly surfaced the general public, courtesy of the media and the Internet social networking sites Facebook and Twitter.

Announcements given by several celebrities surfaced, one particularly coming from Rivermaya member and Palito’s fellow drummer Mike Escueta’s Rivermaya fan page:

"Legendary actor/musician Palito is currently confined in a hospital in Imus, Cavite, and badly needs financial assistance in order to fully diagnose his condition. He is in need of a CT Scan ASAP. Please contact us at 09163451874 if you wish to donate. Any amount will help him greatly. Please share this post with your contacts. Thank you so much."

Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. also volunteered to take care of Palito’s medical expenses, including a much-needed transfer to Philippine General Hospital, where he was supposed to undergo a CT scan, Techie.ph reports. Action star and FHM Man of the Decade, Robin Padilla, pledged to provide financial aid as well.

In a conversation with PEP.ph back in 2007, the then-74 year-old Palito proudly boasted of his good health despite the thin frame. Even with Palito’s passing, the family will need financial help in making sure all of the legendary comedian’s medical expenses are paid and is laid to rest accordingly.

Donations are now being accepted by the Hipolito family. You may get in touch with Palito's sons Jhune and Arvin at +63912 814 4212 or +63928 456 4958. You may also wire the money to Arvin Z. Hipolito's UCPB/Megalink account, with account number 2381066324.

On behalf of the entire FHM nation, we would like to thank Palito and his glorious contribution to Philippine comedy. Comedy cult hits like Rambuto and James Bone can only prove how significant Palito’s career was to showbiz. Rest in peace, sir.
