In an interview with GMA News, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II confirmed that the incident happened around 7:45 a.m. at the NBP’s Building 14 that houses high-profile convicts.
Aguirre said details were still sketchy as of the moment.
However, he revealed that the riot stemmed from some inmates using shabu inside prison. This then led to the riot where Sebastian, Co, Peter Co, and Vicente Sy were injured.
Aguirre also admitted that they were only able to prevent 90 percent of illegal items into the NBP, which explains how shabu was able to be smuggled inside the prison.
“Kahit papaano mayroon pa rin nakakapasok... Hindi natin malaman kung saan galing yan,” he said.
Due to this, Aguirre will instruct the Special Action Forces manning the NBP to further tighten security.
Sebastian, who was tagged as one of the major players in the NBP drug trade, is currently in stable condition at the Bilibid Medical Center.
