By now, we all know what happened to Cristine Reyes. The finest woman in the land and her family were among the hundreds trapped on the roofs of their houses in Provident Village in Marikina when Ondoy hit the country last Saturday, 26 September. Pictured is what remains of her home.
Cristine, along with her sister, her mother, and two nieces sought relief from the rising floods that has submerged the village starting at 1 PM, Saturday.
In her Facebook status update at 1:53 PM, Cristine wrote: "Somebody rescue me. Super baha na pati sa house namin! Anung gagawin ko sa car ko!? Please please please rescue! Sana wag maulit yung baha dito nung 1978! Pls." Alarmed by the speed at which the flood waters and the Marikina river right behind her house were rising, the actress began texting friends and the media, asking for help. That was the last update we've heard from her.
Twelve hours later, she was finally rescued by fellow actor Richard Gutierrez. “Pagdating ng 1 AM, may dumadating ng ilaw,” Cristine tells pep.ph, her voice cracking as she expressed her heartfelt gratitude. "Unang una sa mga kapatid ko, dumating kayo. Pag [emergency] talaga, family ang maasahan mo. Kay Richard, thank you so much, at saka sa kaibigan niya na nagpahiram ng speed boat. Sa ate ko [Ara Mina], sobrang nag-alala siya. At saka sa lahat ng tao na nagdasal para sa amin.’”
She adds in her Facebook status update on Sunday, 12:43PM: "Were safe na. No cellphone...salamat sa lahat ng prayers ninyo. THANK YOU LORD DI MO KAMI PINABAYAAN!"
