A dentist who shares the same surname as Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte cried foul and vented on social media after his property in the province was tagged as among the alleged hidden assets of the presidential candidate.
Dr. Gian Paolo Duterte explained on a Facebook post that he acquired his property in Cagayan de Oro City through legal means, ABS-CBN reported.
''For the record, I am a practicing Pediatric Dentist for seven years and I have established regular clients through private practice based in Cagayan de Oro City,'' he said.
“Through my profession, I was able to secure a loan from the Bank of the Philippine Islands to purchase the real estate property, mentioned in the reports of GMA 7 and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV," he added.
Dr. Duterte also said that his family hails from Cebu and they have yet to find any direct relation to the tough-talking mayor’s political clan in Davao City.
The dentist’s name was dragged into the controversy just a week prior to the elections after Senator Trillanes accused Mayor Duterte of having hidden properties.
Trillanes initially accused Duterte of having over P200 million stashed in a bank account, adding later that the mayor also had bank transactions amounting to P2.4 billion over the years.
He even challenged Duterte to sign a bank waiver to prove to the public whether he was really being truthful in his statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth.
On Monday, Trillanes and Duterte’s representative, Atty. Salvador Panelo met but no waiver was signed which frustrated the former who called Duterte a coward.
