Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade has owned up to the recent runway closure at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) which affected numerous flights.

Tugade’s straightforward apology was posted by the Presidential Communications page on Wednesday.

“Humihingi ako ng dispensa sa bayan sapagkat nabahiran ang imahe natin sa pangyayaring ito, sorry,” he said.

Tugade also apologized to President Rodrigo Duterte and vowed to learn from the incident to prevent it from happening again.

“Mr. President, sorry, ako ang nakaupo ngayon dito, di ako titingin sa nakaraan. Responsibilidad po namin yan,” he said.

“Nangyari po yan, please accept our utmost apologies, and we will do our utmost best so a repeat will never happen,” he added.

Netizens commended Tugade’s move, saying it was a breath of fresh air compared to the previous administration.

In the past, former Transportation secretary Jun Abaya apologized over his crude remark regarding traffic not being fatal to the riding public.

On the other hand, former Manila International Airport Authority general manager Jose Honrado was known for blaming everything and everyone else aside from himself for NAIA’s woes during his watch.
