Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has finally received a response from the Vatican after his camp sent an apology letter addressed to Pope Francis last January.

The response dated February 24 showed Vatican General Affairs substitute Angelo Becciu writing on behalf of the Pope, GMA News reported.

“The Holy Father offers the assurance of his prayers for you, as he invokes upon you the divine blessings of wisdom and peace,” it read in part.

The tough-talking mayor got into trouble after publicly cursing at the Pope for causing traffic during his Papal visit last year.

Aside from sending an apology letter to the Pope, Duterte also apologized publicly. He explained that he was only cursing at the government’s incompetence in handling the traffic situation during the jam-packed event that resulted in numerous streets to be impassable.
