It seems that presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte is out to embody his pro-poor stance by giving back the donations that he wasn’t able to use for his presidential campaign.

Marion Raagas, a member of Duterte’s presidential campaign team posted a photo of various bank checks that he said were going to be credited back to donors.

“What greeted me this morning as I walk into my office was a bunch of checks that I need to sign. These checks represent the pro-rated amounts of excess campaign fund contributions for Duterte campaign team (coursed thru Anonymous Patriots),” he wrote in his post.

According to Raagas, the tough-talking mayor was now walking the talk with this move.

“I suppose this is the first time in our country's history that excess campaign funds are voluntarily returned to generous campaign contributors. Normally, traditional politicians just pocket the difference or perhaps fund handlers just 'split the loot' amongst themselves,” he added.

This was not the first time Duterte demonstrated acts that veered away from the practices of traditional politicians.

He recently appealed to the public not to refer to him as president and just call him the Mayor of the Philippines. He explained that he hates adulation and sees everyone as his equal, regardless of position and social status.
