'This should really change. And I don't know how it will, considering that this entails losses for the networks. But it really is time'
With the recent passing of two of the most notable directors in the country, Wenn Deramas and Francis Pasion, fellow filmmaker Quark Henares expressed his sentiments towards the probable cause of their deaths.
The Super Noypi director took to Facebook on March 6 to pay tribute to Direk Francis who became his friend back in college.
"He was my professor, he was my friend, he was the founder of my college org, he was my colleague...Rest in peace, Mr. Pasion," wrote Henares. In the latter part of the post, he said the "horrible working hours and conditions" may have been a factor in the deaths of the three directors.
"I think the reason a lot of TV directors like Wenn Deramas and Gilbert Perez [who died in 2008], and now Francis Pasion are getting cardiac arrests is because of the horrible working hours and conditions in Television."
He appealed to all television networks to consider changing the working situation, not only for directors but for everyone involved in creating a show.
"This should really change. And I don't know how it will, considering that this entails losses for the networks. But it really is time," he added.
