And a happy Monday to you, fine lad! No sane man would dare declare Monday to be their favorite among the seven days the week, but we say it's about time we give it the glory it rightfully deserves.
Ever thought of Monday being responsible for getting our much-needed work juices flowing? Or the fact that it dutifully picks you up from a lazy weekend slump? And, more than any other day of the week, we think Monday is the ultimate flagbearer of feel good news, as well.
Here, in fact, are five bits of mega awesome ones to jumpstart the long workweek ahead. Just remember that y'all read about it today, a Monday! Sirs and madams, proceed!
IT'S WORTH THE WAIT, WE KNOW IT
Malacañang has already announced that the Quezon Avenue underpass located at the corner of Quezon Avenue and Araneta Avenue will finally open this Friday, September 28! Said underpass was supposedly built to decongest the volume of traffic in the area, assisting in the smooth flow of vehicles also coming from EDSA, Espana, and the likes. The road to convenience is being realized here!
SUUUURE, PICK A PLANET
In other news, scientists have discovered a new alien planet that revealed itself to be one of the top contenders to support life beyond Earth. Labeled as Gliese 163c, the “super earth” lies at the edge of its sun’s habitable zone, meaning it has enough distance from its sun for liquid water to survive. Researchers have already found six potentially habitable planets outside of Mother Earth to date. We say our survival chances are pretty good if shit indeed hits the fan.
HERE'S ONE THAT INCLUDES CHEERLEADERS!
Two underdog collegiate universities also had a weekend worth raving about! For starters, the UP Pep Squad had an epic weekend with a first place win at the UAAP Cheerdance Competition last Saturday! The NU Bulldogs on the other hand are officially back in the UAAP Final Four after beating the FEU Tamaraws, 84-81 in overtime Sunday afternoon. It’s been 11 years since the Bulldogs last made it to the top four, so it’s obvious the team’s pretty stoked right now. The dream is alive!
AND THE EMMY GOES TO
And hey, today’s the Emmys! Among the moments we’ve been gushing about in this year’s show: (1) Aaron Paul winning the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor for Breaking Bad; (2) Julia Louis Dreyfus and Amy Poehler’s acceptance speech trolling; (3) Seth McFarlane’s onstage microphone fail jiffy; (4) Modern Family bagging an award for Outstanding Comedy Series; and (5) host Jimmy Kimmel’s hilarious opening monologue. POVERTY AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT A THANG
Here’s the smiling clincher: An estimated 800,000 fewer Filipino families consider themselves as “poor”, according to the latest Social Weather Stations survey. Said statement showa an 8-percent drop from the 10.3 million families that labeled themselves as “poor” during the same survey four months prior. Poverty scores have improved in all areas except Visayas, but this still means that Pinoys are generally feeling mighty fine. And with that we bid everyone a Happy Monday!
