The secret is out: KC Concepcion is Tanduay’s 2013 Calendar Girl. In an event held at Skye W Lounge at The Fort last Thursday, November 15, Tanduay execs and members of the press witnessed the official reveal, who were greeted with an opening dance number from that night’s woman of the moment, herself dressed in a red skintight suit.
Afterwards, an on-stage interview revealed bits and pieces about the calendar, where KC noted that there was indeed some hesitation on her part to endorse an alcoholic product, partially because, well, it’s an alcoholic product.
KC—once a poster girl for di-makabasag-pinggan sweetness, a woman said to have been refined by the fires of Paris itself, a daughter nurtured by one of Philippine Showbiz’s favorite daughters, Ate Shawie—can now be seen on a calendar that routinely finds its way plastered on the sides of trucks. ”Ang dami-daming nagtatanong sa ‘kin, 'Are you doing the calendar of Tanduay?' And I say, 'Yes. Does that shock you?' And they say, 'Yes, it does.'”
So why did she accept it? Our belief was that this is yet another page in the reinvention of KC, which began with that much-talked-about cover with another men’s magazine, where KC showed her ample behind while holding a mannequin’s head that, rumor has it, was made to resemble the mug of a former lover.
Her real answer, to the disappointment of our controversy-loving selves, was that it was her chance to endorse a product that’s truly Filipino-made, pointing out the said beverage’s award-winning history, and long-tenured position as the alak of choice amongst a majority of Filipinos. “Lahat ng Pilipino nakaka-appreciate ng Tanduay,” said the actress.
