One hot piece of showbiz news hanging 'round the hemisphere is the unforeseen affair between Kristen Stewart and her 41-year old Snow White and The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. Flings between a star and her director ain't exactly a rare occurence in Hollywood, but this one's gaining widespread attention due to the high-profile real-life romance between Stewart and her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson. The latter is reportedly distraught by the news, which is why K-Stew is trying her darnest to fix her relationship.

"I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected," says Kristen in an official statement given to People Magazine earlier this week. "This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."

This got us thinking: what constitutes a legitimate affair? Here are four cheating myths couple should prolly think about before calling it quits.

Myth No. 1: If there’s no sex involved, it’s not an affair.

Oh, it’s even worse. Emotional infidelity – a deep, personal connection between two platonic-turned-romantic individuals – can be the biggest threat for couples in a committed relationship. It can be passionate but undetectable, erotic but unconsumed, addictive and too damn easy to get away with. It’s an affair of the abstract kind.

Myth No. 2: If she cheats on you, she doesn’t love you.
While it may appear that way, this may not necessarily be the case. It could indicate that your partner does not respect you enough, maybe she just has a different value system from yours. Or maybe she's just unhappy. Some lovers, however settled they may appear, may be more than capable of separating sex from love. When the situation arises, don’t discount the idea of her still having feelings for you.

Myth No. 3: Sex with an ex isn’t cheating.
Sleeping with an ex is one of the most familiar sexual slip-up that cheaters commonly expect to get away with. While one might assume that shagging with a former missus won’t do your current relationship any hurt, doing so may lead to disastrous consequences. Your ex, for one, may be doing it with you for the sake of rekindling a relationship. Her constant presence afterwards would be a whole other mess.

Myth No. 4: Affairs can save relationships.
It wouldn’t take an ounce of moral fiber to figure out that this myth is nothing but a fallacy. Having said that, looking at the reasons why a person strays can help piece together what’s left of what you had before. People generally have affairs to be able to reinvent themselves or to try becoming the person they think they want to be. If love and commitment prevail, couples can talk about the personal changes they need to make to save their relationship.
