Remember those kick-ass auto-lacing Nike Air Mags Marty McFly wore in Back To The Future II?

Of course you do, but just in case:

We came up with theories on how it was able to automatically lace itself up (from remote controls to other forms of off-cam sorcery) back then because, quite frankly, it was simply too good to be true.

Due to insistent geeky demand, Nike tried to come up with a replica a few years backthe limited-edition 2011 Nike Air Mag. However, while it did resemble the futuristic sneakers, it lacked the most important feature of all: power laces.

So imagine how BTTF fans gushed when they saw the post below on Nike's Twitter account, right smack in the middle of Back To The Future Day:

Apparently, what that intriguing exchange meant was:

Nike reportedly has produced one pair of the 2015 Nike Air Mag and sent it to the most fitting person to "lace 'em up" first. (And you know a shoe's special when you hear no one shouting, "Binyagan na 'yan!" in the background...)

Fox trying on this legendary pair not only indulged BTTF aficionados but also served as a much-welcomed development in shoe tech.

Nike, Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Parker explained on Nike.com, "We started creating something for fiction and we turned it into fact, inventing a new technology that will benefit all athletes."

According to the website, the 2015 Nike Mag is a "limited edition release. It will only be available via auction, with all proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. The specific details on the auctions will be posted to Nike News and via Twitter @Nike in spring 2016."

We're just glad that we can now say that self-lacing sneakers are no longer a movie fantasy.
