Yesterday, netizen Ageygey Hadjiphanis shared to GMA News’s citizen journalism arm, YouScoop, how she got a singkwenty—a hybrid version of the P50 and P20 bills.
According to the viral post, she didn’t notice that a singkwenty was handed to her as change at Divisoria. She thought it was a real 50-peso bill at first glance.
“Nang kanya aniyang suriin, napansin n'yang pinalitan ang numerong 2 sa bente pesos ng numerong 5 at kinulayan ito ng pula upang magmukha itong singkwenta pesos,” the post said.
She also reminded everyone to be extra vigilant, especially this Christmas season.
Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) strongly reminds the public that it is unlawful to "willfully deface, mutilate, tear, burn or destroy, in any manner whatsoever, currency notes and coins issued by the BSP," according to Presidential Decree No. 247. Any person who shall violate this shall be fined in the amount of not more than P20,000 and/or imprisoned for a period of not more than five years.
Of course, netizens quickly reacted to the trending post.
