Around the same time last year, we did a side-by-side comparison of two of the most-awaited sports games for many Pinoy gamers: EA’s NBA Live 10 and 2K Sports’ NBA 2K10. We weighed both games’ visual and audio aspects, gameplay strengths, and the extras that they offered, and the competition played out very closely.

In the end, and based on the game's overall polish and solid gameplay foundation, we gave 2K10 our recommendation.

That’s not to say that NBA Live 10 was a downer, because  it was not, and clearly, the competition had been at its tightest, since their yearly head-on collision began around the year 2000.

For both Playstation 3 versions, NBA Live 10 had a metacritic rating of 81, while NBA 2K10 scored an 83. It felt like momentum was going back to NBA Live’s side, in an era where 2K had become the consensus no.1 basketball game for many hardcore basketball gamers.

You’d have thought that the competition was only going to get fiercer from that point, like it was Bird versus Magic all over again.

Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen. EA Sports’ NBA Elite 11, Live’s spiritual successor, has been delayed—indefinitely.

Both Elite 11 and 2K11 were supposed to see release on October 5, but now only the latter will. Both games released demos a week before the aforementioned release date, with fan feedback being positive for the Michael Jordan-endorsed 2K11, and terrible for Elite 11.

The demo for NBA Elite 11 revealed that it simply wasn’t good enough for release, with one sport gaming aficionado going as far as to say “Based on the demo, this is quite possibly the worst basketball game I have played this generation.”

Take a look for yourself. Check out the following video, fast forward to the 2:30 mark, and witness Lakers center Andrew Bynum become “Jesus standing in the middle of the court.”
