Credited as the band that brought heavy industrial music to the general public, Manila-visitor Nine Inch Nails has always been one of the few musical acts that never compromised their style in the face of changing trends. When the mainstream music landscape switched from grunge to emo to dancepop, Nine Inch Nails has stayed true to its core. And with it fan support never wavered. The band has produced a total of seven full-length albums so far, including Pretty Hate Machine, The Downward Spiral, and their latest, The Slip.
There has never been a better time to catch them live because the Wave Goodbye Tour is NIN’s final curtain call. Their once-in-a-lifetime stop here in the Philippines happens on August 5 at the Araneta Coliseum.
What will live on, however, is their music, aided by their disturbing music videos. Trent Reznor has proven he is the manifestation of crazy himself, so here now is our little attempt to make sense of his shocking music videos.
“Help Me I Am In Hell” from Broken EP
Striking images: A serious looking man in a white button down shirt complete with a necktie is bored at the dinner table. In front of him are a piece of juicy steak and a glass of wine waiting to be consumed. Lots of flies are invited, some of which are making like Michael Phelps in the wine while some are content relaxing on the juicy steak. Serious-looking man takes a bite and a sip. And then pictures himself as a dominatrix.
What it says about Trent: Trent Reznor is a man who believes that it’s okay to eat fly-ridden steak as long as it is still juicy.
Level of madness: Medium-rare to well-done
