Two overseas Filipino workers who have been working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as engineers for years have lucked out and won millions of pesos in separate promotions there.
According to Gulf News, Engineer Edmundo Catangay was announced the winner of a gold bar that weighs around one kilogram, which was the grand prize at an annual mall promotion. The lucky OFW’s prize is estimated to be worth Dh150,000 or roughly P2 million.
Apparently, Catangay who has been working in the UAE for 2 years now had forgotten all about joining the raffle so it came as a big surprise to him when he was informed of winning the grand prize. He will reportedly use the money to buy a home in the Philippines for his family which includes his three children.
The promo was run by the Majid Al Futtaim group that allowed shoppers to enter the raffle upon a minimum purchase of Dh200 or roughly P2,700 at the City Centre Deira mall.
Meanwhile, Al Dizon Bansil won big last week after he sent his wife a remittance of Dh3,677 that allowed him to enter the annual raffle of the Al Ansari Exchange remittance chain.
The 43-year-old engineer took home a whopping Dh1 million or roughly P13.9 million after spending the last 11 years working away from his family in the UAE.
“To be honest with you, I’m just thinking of going home... I just want to spend almost every day of my life with them. They’re the big winners,” Bansil said.
