We were there to see boxing champ Manny Pacquiao belt out a cheesy ballad in the Jimmy Kimmel Show. [firstpara] We tuned in to see Cannes winner Brillante Mendoza being interviewed on CNN’s Talk Asia. Seeing one of our own get featured on international TV always seems to cause a flurry amongst us.

And now we’ll be tuning in once again, not just for any ordinary Filipino, but for a figure of significant impact, the Philippines’ President-elect, Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino.

He will be appearing on CNN’s Talk Asia on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 8:30 PM.

Interviewing the Philippines 15th President will be CNN’s Arwa Damon, who travels all the way to the Aquino’s estate in Tarlac.

There’s obviously much to be discussed with a freshly-seated leader, but the most important remains the change he is planning to bring about. And President-elect Aquino has only this to say:

“We are the public servants, you are the public, you are the masters, you are the ones who have the decisions, wants and needs that should be respected and delivered, and we will bring it back to that point.”

Noynoy also stress the importance of providing better livelihood for the people, saying that the opportunities for a better life should be made available to the people, and that creating those opportunities are part of the government’s duties.

While those issues are important, CNN digs deeper and questions the reasons behind Noynoy’s decision to run for president.

On a more personal level, Noynoy also recounts the day his father was assassinated—wherein he describes the experience as something where “you couldn’t be defined in either time or space at that point in time. I guess that’s what shock is.” And Insofar as the inevitable is concerned, queries regarding the historical conflicts between the Aquino and Marcos clans will also be given some light.
