Comedian Redford White died yesterday, July 25, 2010 at 6:47am. He died from complications of brain and lung cancer, reports gmanews.tv. [firstpara]
White, Cipriano Cermeno in real life, is survived by his wife and daughter.
A family friend, Simon Serrano, told GMAnews that White “had been sick since last February.” But “he kept his condition secret, even from close friends,” wrote comedian Gabe Mercado on Twitter.
There were, however, some friends who were able to visit White in his home Tuesday before passing on last Sunday.
Among them was Ces Quesada, White’s co-star in the 90s cult hit Buddy en Sol, who noted that “for the first time, we saw him laughing heartily,” reports inquirer.net.
Redford White was discovered by Iskul Bukol director Bert de Leon. White wanted to be a comedy writer, when he was asked to do a screen test that included the lade comedian Bing Angeles.
So successful was that test that it eventually made it to as part of an Iskul Bukol episode.
From there, White would enter the movies in the late 1970s, make the rounds in the 80s, and enjoy a level of fame in the 90s, thanks to Perfect Strangers-inspired Buddy en Sol.
He played the part of Sol; Eric Quizon played Buddy. His last two shows were 2007’s Kokey (ABSCBN) and Daddy Di Do Du (GMA7).
According to pep, his remains lie in the state of wake at 139 Sto. Nino de Maligaya Shrine, Maligay Subdivision, Novaliches.
Redford White, rest in peace, sir. Thanks for all the laughs.
