Members of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) have started arriving at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.

The SAF troopers will officially start manning their posts following the turnover ceremony on Wednesday, GMA News reported.

The NBP's chaplain, Monsignor Robredo Olaguer, received the troopers with a warm welcome.

"Kung ito makakadagdag sa security aspect ng pagbabantay ng Bureau of Corrections, maganda. Alam naman natin na bakit marami pa rin nakakapasok na illegal items dito katulad ng mga drugs," he said.

Earlier, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre revealed that they will replace regular jail guards with around 1,000 troopers.

The change of personnel is in line with President Rodrigo Duterte's war against drugs since the NBP is notorious for allegedly being a safe haven for criminals still conducting illegal activities.
