The Supreme Court (SC) has finally made its decision on the burial of former president Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) in Taguig City.

With a vote of 9-5, the SC ruled in favor of allowing the late Marcos to be buried at the LNMB, CNN Philippines reported.

The ruling was finalized after the SC issued a status quo ante order last August following petitions from various groups contesting Marcos’ eligibility to be given a hero’s burial.

This order was extended twice in September and resulted in the repeated halting of the burial.

Prior to the SC’s decision, former president Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino III whose father—the late Benigno Simeon Aquino, Jr.—was killed as he returned to the country during Marcos’ martial rule said allowing the burial was a "desecration" of the LNMB.

Former senator Bongbong Marcos Jr., for his part, thanked the SC and President Rodrigo Duterte who openly in favor of Marcos’ burial.

Marcos died in Hawaii on September 28, 1989 while he was exiled from the Philippines following the People Power revolution. His remains has since been preserved in the Marcos family mausoleum in Ilocos Norte.
