It seems the inmates of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) have become even more hardheaded as the 13th raid on the country's most notorious prison center yielded not just your usual drugs and other illegal contraband.
This time, a swimming pool was discovered by officials of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on the rooftop of a kubol in the NBP's Medium Security Compound, an ABS-CBN TV report said.
NBP Superintendent Richard Schwarzkopf Jr. said he was puzzled how a rooftop swimming pool was constructed there even as a watch tower was located just a few meters away.
"Maaring diyan pumasok 'yung connivance. That is why pinakita namin sa inyo na ito'y hindi natin pahihintulutan pang mangyari at kailangan talagang gibain," he said.
The swimming pool was immediately demolished.
Other contraband confiscated were stoves, refrigerators, exhaust fans, bladed weapons and suspected shabu stashed inside toothbrush cases.
A smartphone allegedly owned by convicted road rage killer Jason Ivler was also confiscated.
Meanwhile, authorities also conducted a raid at building 14 of the NBP's Maximum Security Compound.
Seized during the raid were high-end gadgets like iPhones, portable projectors, headsets, laptops, and cans of beer.
Among the most bizarre items confiscated from inmates' cells during prior raids were sex toys, hundreds of sex pills, an aquarium, and pets including a Civet cat and Shih Tzu dogs with puppies.
