The three cars that will represent the Philippines in the first Shell Eco-Marathon Asia were unveiled last June 10 at The Fort in Taguig. to be held.[firstpara] Our delegation to the competition that will be held on July 8-11 at the Sepang F-1 Circuit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia are comprised of three teams: UST’s Team Tiger 400, Don Bosco Technical College’s Team Grigio, and Mapua Institute of Technology’s Team Atalanta.
For months, these teams, made only of the brightest engineering students from the said schools, have been working long and hard to produce extremely fuel-efficient cars. After all, the Shell Eco-Marathon isn’t a contest that could be won by the fastest car; it is a contest that seeks to find the most energy-efficient ride that could get the most miles or kilometers from a single liter of fuel.
Even with a limited budget, the three teams proceeded, persevered, and now they’re ready for Malaysia, where they’ll be competing for fuel-efficiency supremacy with other teams from Asia including China, India, Vietnam, Japan, and Taiwan among others.
The Shell Eco-Marathon has been held annually for 25 years now in Europe and more recently in the Americas, with the focus on challenging university and high school student teams to build fuel-efficient vehicles.
