The incident went viral after Penny Cham raised the issue on Facebook. “Let’s not forget dogs are man’s best friend and should not be treated as mere commodities to satisfy one’s greed for profit and a lust for glory at the expense of the dog’s welfare and health,” she said.
According to Cham’s post, most of the 40 dogs that were carried inside a closed van were found in critical condition after arriving at their destination. The dogs were rushed to the nearest veterinary clinic, but eventually died mainly due to complications caused by heat stroke and dehydration.
The Philippine Canine Club Inc., for its part, is currently conducting an investigation after issuing a suspension order against the show’s exhibitor. Needless to say, netizens weren’t pleased with what happened, especially since it could have been totally avoided.
