On September 21, the nation once again bore witness to the spirit of freedom and democracy as Filipinos from all walks of life proved that they won’t let history repeat itself during the mass protests coinciding with the 45th anniversary declaration of martial law.

Thousands of people trooped to the streets to protest the social injustices happening in Philippine society today including the extrajudicial killings under the administration’s bloody drug war and the spread of fake news.

Among the highlights of the event was the burning of the Rody’s cube effigy that joined the President’s image with the likes of former president Ferdinand Marcos and Nazi Fuhrer Adolf Hitler.

Luneta also became the rallying point for protesters who—despite coming from different backgrounds—had a united voice that called for an end to the killings.
