When the public learned that President Cory's honor guards—Navy Petty Officer 3 Edgardo Rodriguez, Air Force Airman Second Class Gener Laguindam, Police Officer 2 Danilo Malab Jr., and Army Pfc. Antonio Cadiente—were to join the Subaru Impreza Challenge last weekend, hopes ran high that the Fab Four would be among the winners in the Manila leg to go and represent the country at the Singapore leg of the Subaru Impreza Challenge on October 31.

Alas, that ain't gonna happen. After almost 10 hours of play, Air Force Airman Second Class Laguindam and Army Pfc. Antonio Cadiente fell out of the challenge, right on the first day.

Police Officer Malab shortly followed, thanks to a bad stomach. The last honor guard left standing, Navy Petty Officer 3 Rodriguez, finally took his hand off the Imprezza in the wee hours of Sunday, the second day of challenge, with a record time of 16 hours and 51 minutes.

This is the 7th year of the Subaru Impreza Challenge. The idea is for the participants to place their right palm on the car for as long as they can. The last 10 standing will then represent the country in the Singapore leg, where they will compete against representatives from other countries to win the P1.8 million ride.—Lou E. Albano
