The technical glitches plaguing the country’s mass rapid transport system has once again hit one of our trains, but this time it’s the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1).
A 16-second clip shared by Jason Ibe showed LRT passengers joking around as they quite literally hung on for dear life with the train doors wide open. It’s a good thing it wasn’t jam-packed at the time or things might have turned out differently.
Back in March, a similar incident happened, which was also recorded and shared by a netizen on social media.
No one was reported hurt in both incidents. The LRT management has yet to issue a statement, but they have been advising their passengers to avoid leaning on the doors.
As expected, netizens who are obviously sick and tired of our dilapidated trains’ sad conditions chose to make light of the situation on social media.

These kinds of incidents, though, are definitely no laughing matter. Case in point: a woman recently lost her arm in a freak accident at the MRT Ayala station. With all these daily mishaps, we could probably say it’s an accident that’s just waiting to happen.
Do we really need to lose a life before the government starts guaranteeing our trains are safe and well-maintained?
