The weekend is here again, and it’s no ordinary weekend as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Rizal’s special day, and Father’s day.[firstpara] Let’s get the happenings happenin, come one, come all!

Remembering Rizal
The United Artists for Cultural Conservation and Development City of Biñan Inc. (UACCD) presents "SI RIZAL AT AKO: Isang Pagpupugay at Pagkilala sa Natatanging Anak ng Biñan" this June 18, Saturday, 8 PM, at the Biñan Multi-Purpose Hall, Plaza Rizal, Biñan City, Laguna. The performance will be done in celebration of Dr. Jose Rizal's birth sesquicentennial.

The performance features a script by Raymond Vergara, and will be a full-on showcase about the hero of the hour, Jose Rizal. From the texts, letters, news, the music and even the hoaxes, this is an all-out Rizal extravaganza as interpreted by the talented members of the Biñan Youth Performance Council, a local community theatre founded in 2005 and students from St. Gabriel Archangel Academy. BJ Borja, a theatre arts graduate from UP Diliman directs the show.

Singapore-based Cinderella Mayo play a big part too as they composed the original music for the show with dramaturgy from Bimbo Sta. Maria, UACCD executive director and president.

Get Wolfgang’d
Yes guys, one of the most hardrocking bands in the 90s is still very much alive and kicking. We’re talking about Wolfgang, and they’ll be having their biggest concert in years, this weekend, June 18, at the Metropolitan Theater in Arroceros, Manila.

Not only does the concert intend to “reacquaint” music fans with the reasons why Wolfgang was considered to be one of the best in the land, it also aims to pay attention to architectural masterpiece that is the MET. The event is also part of the official celebrations of the 440th year of the City of Manila, and clearly an awesome concert for all you young dads out there who grew up with this music.

Join a choral reading of Mi ultimo adios
Instituto Cervantes invites you to celebrate José Rizal's 150th anniversary with them through choral poetry. The Spanish language institute is taking part in the first and largest Spanish choral reading of his poem"Mi último adios (The Last farewell)" on June 18, 10 am at Instituto Cervantes patio.

The reading, as part of the celebration of the Día del Español (Day of the Spanish language), seeks to get 150 Spanish readers that will recite all 70 verses of the poem that Rizal wrote on the eve of his execution on December 30, 1896. Show some hero pride and don’t just listen; join the choral reading, and pay tribute to Rizal. You’ll be given a commemorative t-shirt, if you do, as well.

In line with the reading, Instituto Cervantes will also be republishing two of Rizal's most famous novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo in their original Spanish version.

Entrance to this activity is free. For the Spanish choral reading of Rizal's "Last Farewell," Instituto Cervantes is inviting all Spanish-speaking residents, Spanish language students and interested participants to sign up by calling Instituto Cervantes at (63 2) 526-1482 ext. 115.
