Students will soon have more spare change to spend after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) expanded their existing fare discount regulation for qualified individuals.

The LTFRB recently approved an amendment to Memorandum Circular 2005-014 that gives a 20 percent fare discount to the elderly, disabled persons, and students.

The Memorandum Circular dated October 11th was signed by Chairman Martin Delgra III and other top LTFRB executives like board member Atty. Aileen Lizada.

Here’s what you need to know under the amended provision:

1) Students can avail of the fare discount even on the weekends, which means they can now avail of this perk for the whole week.

2) Aside from the weekends, students can also avail of the fare discount during summer breaks and holidays, both legal and special.

3) Postgraduate students such as those taking law, medicine, masters, and doctoral degrees are not covered under these expanded regulations.

4) The new fare discount regulation will be implemented starting this Saturday, October 28.
