Early this week, news broke out that Hollywood actor Owen Wilson wasn't only visiting Manila for "leisure"—as he first claimed—but also to see a Filipina.
The woman in question is Wendy Puyat, fashion designer and daughter of the "godfather of Philippine billiards," Putch Puyat. On Sunday, March 13, the two were spotted watching a horse show at the Manila Polo Club (MPC), PEP.ph reported.
Lifestyle society columnist Becky Garcia confirmed to the The Manila Times through text messaging: "Owen is now at the [Manila] Polo Club with Wendy watching the horse show."
Shortly after, photos posted on Instagram corroborated the "sighting":
A separate source from PEP.ph claimed that Owen, who arrived in the country last Friday, March 11, first laid eyes on Wendy "in Paris and followed her here." Although when asked about their status, she said that there was nothing special going on between her and the actor.
True Owen (and Woody Allen) fans will also find some joy in the alleged couple's "how-we-got-to-know-each-other" story. It seems eerily familiar...
Apparently, Owen was headed to Hong Kong, but dropped by the country after being invited by a couple of Filipino businessmen he met through mutual friends.
Even though MPC was one of the places the actor visited (aside from a few clubs in Bonifacio Global City, such as Revel and Bank Bar), it was to play tennis against a former national player, and not to meet up with Wendy. If anything, Owen did attend the premier sports hub's 51st Annual Horse Show and Equestrian Exhibit.
He was also said to be impressed with the ambiance at Las Flores restaurant in BGC.
After initially shunning photo-op requests, Owen reportedly obliged to some, before departing albeit low-key the night of Sunday.
There are also now rumors that Owen is actually dating the daughter of an American companion at MPC.
Nevertheless, you can't deny being intrigued by Wendy, whom we have to admit, is also quite a looker.
As always, we already did the research for you to get to know the woman better...
In the early 2000s, Wendy was considered as one of Manila's "It Girls," along with fellow socialites Celine Lopez, Tina Tinio, and Jackie Cohen-Antonio.
She is also said to have been a member of a younger set of the metro's alta sociedad known as the "Gucci Gang," with Lopez, Tinio, Marcel Crespo, Tim Yap, Xeng Zulueta, Bea Ledesma, etc.
Wendy had been married to Chinese scion Anthony Hotung, but ended it in 2008 after an affair (in Hong Kong, with her as the guilty party, according to an INQUIRER.net report).
She channels her fashion acumen through her luxury resort wear line Por Do Sol, which she founded upon moving back to Asia after spending seven years in Paris.
According to its website, Wendy honed her skills in graphic design in the capital of France, where she received her Masters degree in Visual Communications from the Ecole Supérièure de Design Industrielle-Créapole and the Sorbonne. French luxury brands like Chopard, Dior, Jean-Paul Gaultier and L’Oréal have already acquired her services.
This woman definitely knows her style, catching Preview's eye, which included her in their 2004 Best Dressed List.
Wendy once appeared on Channel [V] Philippines' lifestyle program, [V] Life, where she was interviewed by Solenn Heussaff.
