The Zombie obsession is new heights. The folks at Architect Southwest, an architecture firm based in Louisiana, have launched the 2011 Zombie Safe House Competition, made to introduce the world to the most structural way to survive the undead. Score one for the well-prepared!

Here’s how the competition works. Artists, architects, and fellow zombie enthusiasts are tasked to do one simple thing: Design a zombie-proof residence that will save survivors in the event of a zombie outbreak on civilization. Designs must be humanly possible, comfortable, and capable of inflicting zombie pain.

Good news is we can all participate by viewing and voting for our favorite entries at www.zombiesafehouse.wordpress.com. Voting is currently open and due to popular demand has been extended until October 31. Hey, we might actually get to use these safe houses one day, so pick prudently.

Cool enough, plenty of contestants actually submitted a good number of formidable entries, some of which look so proficient and sustainable professional architects are gonna wanna take notes. Check out the illustration below to see an example of what we’re talking about. Tremendous, no?
