Welcome to FHM! How does it feel to be the cover of our anniversary issue no less?
Thank you! Siyempre kinakabahan nang kaunti, pero I’m happy kasi meron akong nagawang bago para sa sarili at sa career ko.

This also happens to be our summer special. You look like a girl who wears swimsuits
like a second skin.
Well, now that I’m older and more mature, natutunan ko na ring maging comfortable
sa sarili kong body.

It may sound strange but you also looked perfectly natural in that mermaid suit.
Fun siya, ha ha! First time ko ring magawa yun sa buong buhay ko! The whole shoot was fun.

So Empress, it’s a great name–a little intimidating actually. We feel like we’re talking to royalty. Do you get that a lot?
No, kayo ang una, ha ha!

Then you’ve got that grand title, “Empress of Drama.”
I feel honored and happy about that but intimidated at the same time. You have to prove to people na deserving ka to be called “Empress of Drama.”

It’s probably because you were a successful child star. This shoot will surprise everybody for sure–what do you want to happen because of this shoot?
Definitely, I want everyone to realize that I’m no longer a child. It’s also for everyone to understand na posing for FHM doesn’t mean na mag-se-sexy ka na or you are changing your image sa public. For me, I took posing for FHM as a challenge to show everyone na you can still be wholesome while showing skin. It’s all about how you carry yourself.

It's a challenge to sexy indeed. Is there a distinction between a regular actress and a sexy one?
I don’t think naman that posing in a swimsuit is a sign na mag-se-sexy ka na. Para sa akin, it’s a chance for me to show everyone na I’m confident with my body. Kasi nowadays, what does sexy mean? It depends on how you define sexy. In this day and age, being sexy is being confident and comfortable with yourself. So for me there is no thin line between being an actress and a sexy actress; as long as confident ka sa sarili mo and your craft, then for me you are both sexy and talented.

Well said. Did you think about this shoot for a long time or was it easy to say yes?
I thought about it for a long time. I’m taking this as an opportunity to show everyone na I’m a more mature actress who is ready to show her growth in the industry. This is in preparation for more mature roles, like what I’m doing for Tuhog, where I’m paired with Enchong Dee. It’s an indie film, a coming-of-age story about two teenagers discovering their sexuality. Aside from that, I came to realize when I turned 18 that I should start taking care of my body. So kahit chubby ako noon I decided to lose weight. My posing in a bikini is also a venue for me to flaunt my hard work, ha ha! Hope it inspires girls like me to take better care of themselves.
