With just barely a year after its release on Spotify and YouTube, Shanti Dope’s song "Nadarang" has hit over 20 million views and streams—a phenomenal feat for a newbie 17-year-old on the scene.
His other hits "Mau" and "Shantidope" are also some of the most played local rap songs in the country. Both kids and adults, from school boys to young professionals (heck—even celebrities!) know the lyrics of his masterpieces by heart.
We're actually not surprised by his newfound fame. Shanti, still a kid with optimistic views of the industry, is garnering praise not only from the underground rap scene, but also from the mainstream realm of music. He has a fresh take on Pinoy rap: he writes his own songs, and he manages to balance everything at such a young age, especially since Shanti still attends high school.
Among the projects in store for the rapper-songwriter is an upcoming single, a concert to launch a new album, as well an international collaboration with Krayzie Bone of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Mimi. Shanti, together with Gloc-9, will also be the special guests in the upcoming concert of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony on September 5, 2018 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The future looks bright for this young wunderkind rapper and this month's FHM Hero.
