The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) recently topped a survey of universities employers preferred to hire graduates from.
The survey conducted by Jobstreet, with 551 companies as participants, showed PUP, which was previously ranked fourth, trouncing the University of the Philippines (UP) which was last year's leading choice.
PUP garnered an overall 45 percent rating and was far ahead of the University of Santo Tomas (UST), which came in at second with 31 percent.
ADMU, DLSU, UP, and UST make up the traditional "Big 4" universities in the country consistently touted for producing the best batch of graduates every year. This prompted Jobstreet Philippines country manager Philip Gioca to explain the sudden shift in employers' hiring preference, the Inquirer reported.
"PUP graduates display three distinct characteristics that is needed in their business," Gioca shared. "One, PUP graduates display a drive to succeed and are very hardworking. Second, they have reasonable demands and they don’t usually display an attitude of self-entitlement. And third, they tend to stay longer in a company and they don't leave at the slightest difficulty."
