In case you’re wondering why Selena Gomez has been missing in action these past few months, here’s the reason:
In an Instagram post she shared earlier today, the pop star wrote about her fight with Lupus and her successful kidney transplant done recently.
“I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health,” Selena said.
She also thanked her best friend, Francia Raisa (the one with her in the picture), for being her kidney donor.
“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”
Selena and Francia have been friends for a decade now. They first met in 2007, when Disney and ABC visited a children's hospital for an event.
The 29-year-old Francia is also an actress. She starred in various shows including The Secret Life of the American Teenager. She was also a part of 2006 hit, Bring It On: All or Nothing.
She’s the daughter of radio personality Renan (El Cucuy) Coello and Virginia Almendarez. Before she ventured into acting, Francia was busy with her modelling career.
In 2011, Francia won the Outstanding Female Rising Star in a Drama Series or Special in the Gracie Allen Awards for her role in The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
She also appeared in music videos “So Big” by Iyaz and “Gibberish” by MAX.
She can also sing!
Selena and Francia are so close that she considers her as her “sister.”
And just like Selena, Francia also has a massive Instagram following, with more than half a million followers as of writing.
Francia is slated to star in TV Channel Freeform's upcoming show, Grown-ish, this year.
