Mirjam Poterbin was a former hurdler, dancer, and model—and it shows. Clearly, Luca got those athletic genes not just from papa (Sasa Doncic), who was an ex-professional basketball player. At 42 years old, Mirjam looks pretty fit that if you didn't know she was the rookie's mother, you'd mistake her for his girlfriend.
She took custody of Luka—only 8 at that time—after divorce. Five years later, Real Madrid offered her son a chance to play for them, which Mirjam admitted to Euro Hoops was the "toughest decision," especially the idea of him living alone in "a city where he didn't know anyone." Safe to say, she made the right decision based on Luka's long list of accomplishments: 2017-18 EuroLeague champion and MVP, among others.
Going back to draft night, social media was abuzz following the announcement, with cheers palpably having grown louder for Mirjam. Just ask Golden State Warriors swingman Andre Iguodala (and humorously, rumored MILF hunter Delonte West).
The consensus was that Dallas won the deal (No. 5 pick Trae Young and 2019 first rounder) and the draft after landing the heir apparent to franchise cornerstone Dirk Nowitzki in the 6'6" phenom. Once the camera operator starts zooming in on the fine-looking Mirjam during home games, Mavs fans will realize how big of a steal Luka was.
