Maine Mendoza And The Art Of The Beautiful Wacky Face

To remind you of the first thing we loved about the woman now known as Yaya Dub
by John Paulo Aguilera | Oct 27, 2015

Among the numerous segments in the historic grand AlDub event, "Sa Tamang Panahon," the one about Maine Mendoza's heartwarming beginnings was probably our favorite.

It's the least Eat Bulaga! could do for the woman now widely known as Yaya Dub, who re-energized a stable yet relatively dormant TV institution. Not taking anything away from her love team partner Alden Richards, shedding light on Maine's success story was one of the right calls made by the organizers of the record-setting event. (In case you missed it, #ALDubEBTamangPanahon is now the most tweeted event in history with a whopping 41 million tweets.)

We got to know the beloved nanny better, and was inspired by her unlikely tale—from being an introvert to a certified star who finally overcame self-doubt.

One part of the special presentation was Maine's first crack at Dubsmash, which essentially paved her path to stardom. A woman who isn't afraid to make herself look bad—although we seriously find her crumpled face super adorable—in front of the camera, her unique beauty is now known to many.

Still, we cannot forget the first thing we loved about Maine: her ability to strike a balance between wacky and beautiful. But with her Kalyeserye lolas noticing that Yaya Dub now prefers to look more radiant than silly, is it time to say goodbye to her beguiling mime faces?

Thankfully, we were still able to catch glimpses of Maine's eccentric charm during "Sa Tamang Panahon":

This one, though, is probably the most memorable of them all:
