Mere minutes after proclaiming Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as Miss Universe 2015, the popular TV personality was informed that he had crowned the wrong candidate. Steve knew he had to man up and fix his flub, which he did by declaring Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach as the rightful Queen, but not before being loathed by the whole South American country.
He has since buried the hatchet with both parties—at least with Pia and Ariadna—and was bold enough to accept another hosting stint in this year's edition of the presitigious pageant.
Earlier today, Steve had the chance to relive that fateful moment, only this time he didn't mess up and hailed Miss France Iris Mittinaere the new Miss Universe. He didn't have to be too careful and serious during the coronation night, though; the Family Feud host saw the painful memory as an opportunity to warm up to the crowd and make everyone laugh.
That said, here are Steve Harvey's most lighhearted moments at Miss Universe 2016:
Wise enough to expect the worst, he himself addressed the elephant in the room during his introduction:
"Let's get this out of the way. I know what you're thinking: 'Is that the guy from last year? Did they bring back that guy from last year?' Well, they did. It's me. I'm back!"
Steve then recalled the aftermath and lessons from his mistake. He capped his opening speech with a joke about having had his eyes fixed to "get it right" this time.
The Mall of Asia Arena grew wild when Steve introduced Pia, given their colorful history. All's well that ends well for the stunning queen, who even ribbed the host, "Steve, I never got to thank you, but thank you for making me the most popular Miss Universe," before embracing him.
To which he replied, "That's okay. I wanna thank you for making me the most famous host of Miss Universe."
One of, if not the most anticipated, encounter was between Steve and this year's Miss Colombia, Andrea Tovar. And that show-stopping moment came when he named her as one of the Top 13.
Steve: "I wanna just ask this for myself, how do people in Colombia feel about Steve Harvey?"
Andrea: "You want the truth?"
S: "No, just lie to me."
A: "A lot of people hate you, but me, no. I love you." (The crowd screams.)
Imagine Steve's horror when Maxine's name came up next in the list of finalists, which prompted him to blurt out, "I can’t believe this is happening again. This is crazy. What the hell?" Fittingly, a tight hug between him and Andrea after he proclaimed her—yet again—the Second Runner-Up brought closure.
At one point in the pageant, Steve reiterated the importance of coming up with accurate results, even kidding the accountant about not being allowed to leave the Philippines if they screw this up for the second time. Although he does have that trap door from his opening skit in case all hell breaks loose...
Even in her final day as Miss Universe, Pia didn't cease to amaze, and in this case, amuse. She willingly played assistant to Steve's hilarious self-deprecation mic drop, which may be more memorable than his previous blunder. Watch:
"I'm Steve Harvey and I got it right!"
