Eat Bulaga! has been on air for 37 years, and it’s bigger than ever right now with the unprecedented popularity of the Aldub tandem. It was the show that catapulted Maine Mendoza into stardom, going from YouTube sensation to certified leading lady in the blink of an eye. But before Maine, there were other girls, all gorgeous and talented, whose lives were changed by appearing in the noontime show.
Let’s take a look at some of them below.
1) Chiqui Hollman
Hosting timeline: 1979 to 1981
Chiqui was one of Eat Bulaga!’s original hosts, having been with the show since its inception in 1979. Though she was only around for three years, she still kept in touch with her co-hosts. “I used to baby-sit Keempee (son of Joey de Leon) and Apples (daughter of Tito Sotto and Helen Gamboa). Now every time I’m in the mall and someone calls out, ‘Tita!’ it will have to be one of the children of Tito, Vic or Joey,” she said in an interview with Inquirer.
Where is she now? Chiqui quit showbiz for good in 1988, opting for a quiet life away from the camera. Her daughter Chia also became an Bulaga! host for a short time, continuing her mom’s legacy.
2) Coney Reyes
Hosting timeline: 1982 to 1992
For Coney Reyes, Eat Bulaga! was a stepping stone to greater projects. Her show Coney Reyes on Camera was one of the most iconic Pinoy afternoon shows, and she’s starred with some of the brightest stars in the industry throughout her lengthy career as a host-actress.
Where is she now? We’ve yet to see Coney again after her last major role as the formidable A.V.L. in the ABS-CBN series Nathaniel, but we’re pretty sure she’s not leaving showbiz anytime soon—she is THE Coney Reyes, after all!
3) Christine Jacob
Hosting timeline: 1990 to 1998
Olympic swimmer Christine Jacob was persuaded to join Eat Bulaga! in 1990 after some prodding from her tita, who was a writer for the show.
Where is she now? She hosted a rival noontime program, Magandang Tanghali Bayan, after leaving Bulaga!. She took a break from showbiz for a few years to focus on her family with husband Paco Sandejas, later returning to GMA to host a few more shows. She has since opted to be away from the limelight, reveling in her permanent role as a hands-on mom to her five kids.
4) Samantha “Gracia” Lopez
Hosting timeline: 1994 to 1997
Gracia was one of the most memorable EB! girls, dancing her way to stardom via the show’s “Rambulaga” segment. She also became one of the network’s top actresses, starring in a few shows and movies.
Where is she now? Gracia moved to New York in 2002, where she became a retail estate broker. She returned to the Philippines in 2010 for a short showbiz comeback, only to return to NYC after a brief stint under the limelight.
5) Toni Rose Gayda
Hosting timeline: 1996 to 2014
Toni Rose has been a fixture on Bulaga! for nearly two decades, so it took some time getting used to watching the show without seeing her.
Where is she now? We haven’t really seen much of Toni Rose since she left, but we’re hoping she’s doing fine. Last we heard, she was hosting UNTV’s A Song of Praise Music Festival, an annual religious songwriting competition.
6) Lana Asanin
Hosting timeline: 1999 to 2000
Lana Asanin had us tuning in to our TVs every noon just to catch a glimpse of her effortlessly sexy dance moves. She even had her own segment, “Oh La La Lana!”
Where is she now? She’s now based in New York City, where she stays busy acting, working out, and modeling.
7) Leila Kuzma
Hosting timeline: 2002 to 2004
The pretty taekwondo jin stood out with her pretty mestiza looks, quickly earning her a budding career in showbiz. Aside from being in Eat Bulaga!, she was also the original Agane in Encantadia.
Where is she now? That’s a good question. She’s been keeping her online presence really low, only getting mentioned by her showbiz pals every now and then. We do know that her sister, Liana Kuzma, won EB!’s FHHM (For Healthy and Heavy Models) contest in 2014.
8) Nadine Schmidt
Hosting timeline: 2002 to 2004
The Fil-German beauty charmed the public with her antics on Bulaga! in the early ‘00s. Now, it’s nearly impossible to find info about her post-Bulaga! career.
Where is she now? Nadine tried to go daring after leaving the noontime show, showing some skin in movies like Sinful Nights and Room Service. She later managed a bar and a nightclub before eventually making her way back to Germany, where she settled down.
9) Toni Gonzaga
Hosting timeline: 2002 to 2005
Toni’s departure from Eat Bulaga was a major turning point in her career, and her former co-stars couldn’t be prouder. “Tignan mo naman, nung umalis ka umasenso ka," Joey de Leon told Toni when he was interviewed by the latter on The Buzz. "Kung di ka lumayas sa Bulaga! eh di baka sa EB Babes ka na."
Where is she now? A better question would be “where hasn’t Toni been?” The now-Mrs. Paul Soriano has come a long way from her EB days, being an in-demand host, singer, and actress. We can’t imagine Pinoy TV these days without Toni!
10) Diana Zubiri
Hosting timeline: 2003 to 2005
FHM Icon Diana’s Eat Bulaga! stint had her doing opening numbers on Wednesdays and Sundays. This paved the way for her regular appearances in Bubble Gang, as well as her iconic role as Danaya in the original Encantadia.
Where is she now? Diana actually returned to Bulaga! a few years ago, but not in the way you’d expect: She worked on the show as a production assistant for her OJT while taking up Applied Arts (major in Theater) at Miriam College, where she graduated in 2014. She’s now enjoying motherhood while focusing on her sports apparel line.
11) Alicia Mayer
Hosting timeline: 2004 to 2006
Alicia was one of the sexiest stars of her time, nabbing our attention every time we saw her in Eat Bulaga! and the other teleseryes she starred in. She left the noontime show to star in several TV series, often playing as a contravida. She also appeared in a lettuce bikini to promote PETA’s vegetarianism campaign.
Where is she now? Judging from her social media posts, it looks like Alicia’s having fun being a doting mom to her two boys. She’s also got a baby girl on the way, so congratulations are definitely in order!
12) Ciara Sotto
Hosting timeline: 2005 to 2007
With Ciara being the daughter of Tito Sotto, it was only expected that she’d appear on Eat Bulaga! sooner or later. And she did exactly that, making her first appearance on the noontime show at the tender age of six and eventually returning as a regular host. She was even paired up with Paolo Ballesteros!
Where is she now? Though Ciara can still be seen on TV every now and then, she appears to be enjoying her more quiet life as mom to her son Crixus and as a pole dancer. She also has singing gigs from time to time!
13) Julia Clarete
Hosting timeline: 2005 to 2016
Julia Clarete’s kalog personality perfectly fit EB!—she seemed like the kind of girl who’s game for anything, making her so likeable and relatable. So it was a shock for loyal viewers when news of her resignation from the show broke out in January 2016. Julia, bakit?!?!
Where is she now? Julia moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to be with her British boyfriend. “Magpa-five years na po kami ngayon,” she told GMA’s 24 Oras. “We decided na maybe we can move on and build something out of what we have. Mag-level up na kami.”
14) Cindy Kurleto
Hosting timeline: 2006 to 2007
Cindy Kurleto was pretty much at the peak of her career when she decided to leave showbiz in 2007. The actress and FHM’s Sexiest Woman in 2004 was very in demand then, having just starred in GMA teleserye hits Encantadia and Etheria, and was a regular host on Eat Bulaga!. So what gives?
Where is she now? Like Julia, Cindy went abroad to be with her man. They lived in Lima, Peru for eight years and started their own family. She recently relocated to Vienna, Austria, and from the looks of it, she’s absolutely enjoying being a hot momma!
15) Daiana Menezes
Hosting timeline: 2007 to 2012
This Brazilian bombshell broke our hearts when she vanished from Bulaga! in 2012 after a five-year hosting stint to concentrate on her other showbiz projects. She then made headlines a few months after when it was reported that her husband, former Cagayan de Oro Rep. Benjo Benaldo, has been abusive towards her.
Where is she now? It looks like Daiana’s in a much better place now: She’s still active in the showbiz circuit, regularly appearing in TV5’s Happinas Happy Hour and guesting in several shows across the major networks. She’s also been busy with her swimwear line Brazilipinas.
16) Lougee Basabas
Hosting timeline: 2007 to 2009
Lougee, the vocalist of Mojofly, originally joined Eat Bulaga! as a guest performer for a karaoke segment. She later became a regular host on the noontime show.
Where is she now? She’s still very active in the Pinoy music scene, having reunited with Mojofly and even trying out for Season 2 of The Voice Philippines. As for her personal life, she’s making sweet, sweet music with fellow Mojofly member Ali Alejandro, whom she married in December at Balesin.
17) Isabelle Daza
Hosting timeline: 2011 to 2014
Belle made us fall in love with her during her Bulaga! co-hosting stint, with her adorably awkward dancing and singing and her banter with Ryzza Mae Dizon. Let’s just say we really miss seeing her on the show.
Where is she now? Isabelle is now honing her acting chops with ABS-CBN, where she plays contravida Clara in the drama series Tubig at Langis. She’s also preparing for her wedding to Adidas Philippines GM Adrien Semblat.
