From just being closet otakus, Filipinos have taken their love for anime to the next level.
Remember that award-winning short film Hinagunoy sa Goryon by a Cebu-based freelance digital artist? Another locally made animated production has gone viral on social media for its familiar style and interesting vision. If you're a fan of the rock series BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, then you'll fancy this conceptual video.
Apparently, the sweet animation is based on the web publication Bridge Comics. It follows the story of fine arts student Vincent Ivan Rodriguez and Law Madrigal, whose daily lives revolve around their passion for music. Incidentally, the trending clip—written by Magsi Rover, illustrated by Ian Dominic Alejo, and animated by Pol Trudeau—also doubles as a music video for Wasted Chemical's song.
The original upload on the animator's Facebook page Pol-kun already has more than 73 thousand views and 2.6k shares, not to mention countless positive comments and netizens asking for more. It didn't take long before the production reached Reddit, where users had deeper insights.
Mostly constructive criticism, though
Sceneries look better in anime form
Might have been too close to inspiration
The band needs a few more rehearsals
Some cuts had Your Name vibes
Next project: 'Bakuran ni Lolo'
Proper rendering could fix that
Like music, people have different tastes in aesthetic
So dissing on this band is still cool?
