Lionsgate has finally revealed a release date for John Wick: Chapter 3 which will see the successful action film franchise conclude as a trilogy.
According to Variety, the third John Wick movie will be released on May 17, 2019. There’s not much information out yet apart from the date but here’s what we know so far:
Keanu Reeves reprises his role as the titular hitman while veteran actor Ian McShane is rumored to once again play Winston, the enigmatic owner of the Continental Hotel.
Chad Stahelski (300, V for Vendetta, Matrix) will be returning to helm and finalize the John Wick trilogy. Alongside him will be Derek Kolstad who wrote the script for the first two films.
Meanwhile, Lionsgate is open to the possibility of creating a John Wick spinoff. While this has yet to be finalized, the spinoff will reportedly be a crossover of sorts with Ballerina, a female-centric action title similar to the John Wick franchise.
Aside from the spinoff, there are also plans to create a TV series that will apparently focus on The Continental, the infamous chain of hotels in the John Wick franchise which has become home to the world of assassins.
John Wick: Chapter 3 will wrap up the legendary assassin’s story as he struggles to fight for his life as an internationally wanted man who’s been declared excommunicado from the sole establishment that once stood as his only refuge.
