The much-awaited first trailer for Star Wars: Episode 8 – The Last Jedi has finally been released. Written and dirtected by Rian Johnson, the story will continue where The Force Awakens, which was shown last December 2015, left off.
As usual, the teaser only made fans even more curious and excited for the upcoming film. And to satisfy everyone's curiosity, below is a quick crash course of what we already know about the next installment. May the Force be with you.
Who is in The Last Jedi?
The sure ones: Luke (Mark Hamill), Rey (Daisy Ridley), Leia (Carrie Fisher), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), C-3PO (Anthony Daniels), Snoke (Andy Serkis), Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), Finn (John Boyega), and Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong’o), who many believed died in The Force Awakens, but thanks to this behind-the-scene photo from the director’s Tumblr account, it looks like the old alien might make a quick cameo.
When’s the release date?
December 15, 2017.
Will Yoda show his tiny self once and for all?
One of the characters many are hoping to see is Luke’s mentor, Yoda (voiced by Frank Oz).
In a discussion with Variety, Oz said: “I feel like I’m a prisoner at war here, and I can only give you my name, rank, and serial number. To be true to the people who asked me, and they are kind of my family, I have to say I’ve been asked not to talk about it. I love Yoda. I would be happy to talk to you about it at the time they let me.”
Two words: Force. Ghost.
Will a CGI Carrie Fisher be there?
No. Carrie Fisher’s scenes as General Leia were already filmed prior to the actress' untimely demise. The same goes for Episode 9.
What is a bio-hexacrypt?
We also believe that there’ll be a completely new addition to the Star Wars universe and it’s called a Bio-Hexacrypt.
Unfortunately, what it is or means or contributes to the plot is still shrouded in mystery.
Who is the last Jedi?
Many believe that the last Jedi referred in the title are either Luke or Rey. But fan theories state the The Last Jedi may actually imply more than one Jedi.
As revealed, the French title for The Last Jedi is Les Derniers Jedi, while in Spanish it is Los Ultimos Jedi. When translated, both words for "Last" appear in their plural form, and even the word "Jedi" is translated plurally.
So is Rey Luke’s daughter?
In a viral tweet, Disney CEO Bob Iger calls Episode 8 “a great next chapter in the iconic Skywalker family saga.”
And what could be a great family moment? Another addition to the Skywalker family!
“Who are you?”
This one is not the public's question, but Luke’s. Apparently (major SPOILER alert here), according to Los Angeles Times reporter Daniel Miller, these are the first words of Mark Hamill in the film.
In the meantime, while we wait for Christmas to arrive, here are some sweet behind-the-scenes photos that's give you a geek-gasm worthy of a lightsaber duel:
