Fans of Japanese super robot series Mazinger Z are in for a treat after plans of releasing a movie adaptation of the popular mecha anime in time for its 45th anniversary were announced.
According to Anime News Network, the big reveal was made by Toei animation in a statement although it was not mentioned if the movie will have a classic animation style or be in live action form.
Details on its release date are TBA but a special event promoting the movie which is titled Gekijoban Mazinger Z (Mazinger Z The Movie) is scheduled during the Anime Japan 2017 convention in Tokyo on March 26.
A website where exclusive updates on the movie can be seen has also been launched.
Created by Go Nakai, the Mazinger Z manga and anime series aired alongside each other in Japan from 1972 to 1974.
Its story revolves around the life of Mazinger Z pilot Koji Kabuto, a high schooler who’s the only one left standing between the world and the mechanical beasts unleashed by mad scientist Dr. Hell.
Over four decades since its launch, Mazinger Z has cemented itself as one of the top super robots of Japan with its continuous appearances in Japanese video games, toy lines, fan videos and other pop culture.
