Ben Stiller stars in director Brett Ratner’s new action/comedy Tower Heist. When a group of disgruntled employees of a high-class apartment building lose their pensions because off a greedy Wall Street executive, they seek the help of a professional criminal to steal back what is rightfully theirs.
Heist comedies are a tried and tested genre (See: Ocean’s 11, 12 and 13), and if anyone is good at mixing action and humor, it’s Direk Ratner (See: Rush Hour trilogy). Plus, it doesn’t hurt that comedy fave Stiller (a director himself) and comedy vet Eddie Murphy (in a role that does not involve a fat suit) are headlining this effort.
Since we believe in the power of Ben Stiller (his Zoolander’s Magnum look still cocking out laughs in our sick imaginations) we decided to pay tribute to the dude by listing down some of the contributions he’s made to the movie world, roles where he took the lead, or did an unforgettable cameo. Scroll through and remember why Ben Stiller has still got it going on!
1) Michael Grates in Reality Bites
Not only did Ben Stiller direct the movie that defined the misguided youth of the 90s, he also starred as Michael, every Gen-Xers worst nightmare–the yuppie corporate sellout that seduces chicks with Peter Frampton’s “Baby I Love Your Way.” He wrote himself into a love triangle with Winona Ryder, getting her to confess in the film that she’s a non-practicing virgin. He’s also responsible for searing Lisa Loeb’s “Stay” into every woman’s playlist. Thank you, Ben. Seriously.
