Each hit TV series from the '90s has been adapted for the big screen in recent years, the last one slated for a 2017 release.

Continuing the trend is a certain captain who could use a reintroduction into a world reeking of pollution.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leornardo DiCaprio's Appian Way Productions and Paramount are teaming up to make Captain Planet the movie happen.

Who better push the project than the Academy Award-winning actor, who is laso a renowned champion of environmental conservation through his namesake foundation.

Captain Planet and the Planeteers, which debuted in 1990, tells the story of five Earth guardians who—"By your powers combined!"—can summon the planetary keeper using elemental rings. Perhaps this would help you remember:

DiCaprio's camp is currently discussing the rights to the TV show, with Glen Powell (of Scream Queens) and Jono Matt tasked to handle the screenplay. No news yet on its casting and date of showing.

What piques our curiousity about the outlined live-action adaptation is its reported storyline. Set in a post-Captain Planet and the Planeteers era, the environmental superhero is now said to be an irrelevant being in need of assistance from the teenagers whom he used to help.
