The tale’s about McQueen, a hotshot rookie racer that’s set out to compete with the biggies for the Piston Cup Championship. But as he goes on a detour, he meets up with a snazzy Porsche, a Hudson Hornet and a tow truck that make him realize that there’s more to life than trophies, fame, oh and sponsorship.

- If you look closely at one of the racing cars, it's white, has the Apple logo, and the number is G4. G4 is a model of the Mac computer, which is made by Apple, which is owned by Steve Jobs, the chairman of Pixar.

- The tires of main star car Lightning McQueen are manufactured by Lightyear—a reference both to the actual tire manufacturer Goodyear and character Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story.

- The initial title of the film was Route 66. However, it was changed to Cars so it wouldn’t imply a connection with the defunct TV show.
