Okay, first things first, violence has (and always will be) one of the most exciting things to see on film. It probably dates back to the Romans' fascination with bloodshed as sport and entertainment, forcing gladiators to fight to the death in the coliseum. This has slowly evolved into wrestling and Mixed Martial Arts.

But swords—you know, those long sharp metal weapons used for maiming—have always been a staple tool for providing cutthroat violence in cinema. And this week, to every anime fans delight, a live action movie version of Rurouni Kenshin–popularly known as Samurai X–will be premiering nationwide tomorrow in SM Cinemas.

Although we here at FHM do not condone violence (we’re all for love, yo!), this is one movie we won’t let slip by. So in preparation for the blood and gore of your samurai childhood fantasies, here are ten of our favorite swordfight scenes in film history. Don’t forget to chime in the comment box below for your personal katana classics.

1) The Assassins VS Naritsugu’s Army, 13 Assassins
Prolific Japanese director Takashi Miike’s remake of a 1963 classic is an epic journey about a band of samurai assassins revolting against the reigning Shogun, Lord Naritsugu. The film’s climax is a 40-minute long battle between our protagonists and the over-200 soldiers of the tyrant. Blood is spilled and splattered to perfection. The violence overt, the dismemberment aplenty, and the filmmaking, classic.

(Ed: Since there is no video of the scene mentioned above online, we're posting the trailer instead below)
